Art Psychotherapy Applications and Techniques Using Marbling Art

The power of art therapy is that it provides the patient with the opportunity to communicate in art in a symbolic and metaphorical way, as well as giving shape to the fantasies, images, feelings, and experiences for which there is no word. In the literature, it was seen that art branches such as painting, dance and movement, sculpture, music, and ceramics were used in studies on art therapy. In this workshop, the use of the traditional Turkish art of marbling in art psychotherapy, its structuring, techniques, and process will be practically explained. The art of marbling is the art of scattering marbling paints on the surface of the specially prepared water in the marbling boat and taking it on paper. Art therapy group studies with marbling art; covering introduction, warm-up, artwork, sharing, and closing sections. For example, in the study that is using the Nightingale Nest Marbling technique, it is aimed at “creating a safe place.” In the study in which the tide marbling technique is used, it is aimed be able to recognize the feelings and fragile sides of the patient that are familiar to one, to realize one’s own resources in the production of orator marbling and to use them under difficult conditions, to establish a connection between the dreams and plans for the future and the present in the production of framed marbling. Participants of this workshop will have information about the stages, techniques, and process of using the art of marbling in art psychotherapy.
