Expressive Techniques in Art Psychotherapy: Personality Patterns and Psychotherapy Applications Using Marbling Art in Symptomatology

In psychotherapy studies with personality patterns, many different approaches to individual and group therapy are used. Likewise, psycho-social treatments, supportive psychotherapies, individual and group psychotherapies, and creative art therapies are commonly used methods in the treatment and rehabilitation of mental disorders. Art therapy, which is one of these methods, is a treatment and psychotherapy method applied by making art and using art as a means of self-expression in many visual, auditory and tactile ways. In the literature, it is seen that many sub-branches of art are used for psychotherapy purposes. In this study, it is aimed to share and evaluate the experience of group art psychotherapy with the art of marbling, which is carried out with different groups covering a wide spectrum from personality patterns to mental disorders. The subject of this study is art psychotherapy practices with individuals with borderline personality organization, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and other psychotic disorders, major depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and eating disorders. In the literature, only semi-structured studies of Aktaş & Eren (2020) related to the use of marbling art in art psychotherapy have been found. The art of marbling is the art of scattering marbling paints on the surface of the specially prepared water in the marbling boat and taking it on paper. The art of marbling has its own materials and techniques that require preparation and application within a certain discipline. In this study, the structuring process of the ebru group art therapy sessions, the quantitative results of the studies with many different groups, the verbal sharing of the clients participating in the sessions, the therapist’s observations will be shared.
